Reserve the VR experience at Art Basel in Hong Kong
HTC VIVE Arts returns as the official VR Partner of Art Basel Hong Kong in 2019, presenting the Asia Premiere of To the Moon, a new virtual reality artwork by the iconic avant-garde American artist Laurie Anderson and new media Taiwanese artist Hsin-Chien Huang.
For over 20 years, Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang have collaborated on a wide range of multimedia projects. To the Moon is one of their most ambitious works to date. Inspired by Laurie Anderson’s experience as the first artist in residence at NASA, the two artists developed this work to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2018. This 15-minute immersive installation transports viewers onto the surface of the moon, where they experience an otherworldly journey in low gravity through virtual reality. The work ultimately attempts to give audiences a new perspective from this vantage point in outer space.
Previously, the two artists were awarded “Best VR Experience” at the Venice Film Festival in 2017 for their installation La Camera Insabbiata. For the first time in Asia, after its debut at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2018, members of the public will be able to experience To the Moon in a one-of-a-kind integrated VR installation in Hong Kong, shown in the HTC VIVE Lounge on level 3 Concourse of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, March 29–31.
