In 2016, Taichung’s National Museum of Natural Science and the National Tsing Hua University presented Brain: The Biology of the Mind, an exhibition that gave the audience a new and immersive understanding about how the brain works. In the exhibition, we presented virtual reality experiences that brought complex research to life.

Through virtual reality, visitors were able to see events that take place inside the brain: one display created by Dr. Chiang Ann-shyn’s from National Tsing Hua University, for example, demonstrated how the neural circuits of fruit flies could be activated to prompt courting. The exhibition inspired the National Museum of Natural Science to use virtual reality across its programming, in projects including Dunhuang, Stories of the Caves, which uncovered the stories of ancient cave paintings.
